This interesting exhibition at Palazzo Cominelli, in San Felice del Benaco (BS), sees the participation of a large group of artists among which the presence of Vanni Cuoghi is relevant, a figurative artist but with an ever new, never banal figuration that draws inspiration from his knowledge of art history immersed in modernity. The title of the exhibition is "Of demons, monsters, nymphs and other stories" linked to a more or less distant past of Lake Benaco or Garda as it is commonly called today. Cuoghi takes its cue from phantom, and after all also recent, sightings of a lake monster in the waters of the lake. Hence the connection with the dragon of medieval narratives, also represented in many sacred and profane paintings, and with the popular belief that a particular resin, obtained from who knows which tree, dark in color, was particularly beneficial in the treatment of many diseases. This resin was called "dragon's blood" . Cuoghi appropriates this belief and connects the healing dragon with the boxes of medicines in which he paints dragons in watercolor which he then cuts out with a scalpel. An enormous dragon painted on the two corner walls dominates the hall. The exhibition is visible until 29 January and can be visited only on Saturdays and holidays. Cost of the entrance ticket € 15.
