In this case, Manfredo Massironi's work appears voluminous because the artist intends to represent the exterior of the sphere, not the interior.

For this reason, Massironi titles the piece "Negative Sphere." The work is essentially composed of a series of cotton threads crisscrossed so as to create a circumference within. Repeating this pattern at different angles creates the optical effect of a hollow sphere.
