This work by Hugo Demarco belongs to the cycle of studies on brightness as the title itself says. The bottom of the work is divided into equal rectangles with alternation of yellow and lemon yellow colors. In the lower left vertex Demarco places a square having twice the side of that of the bottom squares. From the edge of the square and its adjacent sides depart squares having the same dimensions as those at the bottom and develop diagonally through the whole work. The color of this bundle of squares starts from a light brown that gradually fades into the two background colors until it merges with them. The work therefore does not give optical or kinetic effects, but is a study on the brightness of yellow and its saturation.
