Fausto Melotti was born in Rovereto, then still under the Austro-Hungarian Empire, on June 8, 1901 and attended the Royal Elizabethan School there, but at the outbreak of the First World War he moved to Florence where he obtained classical maturity. After graduating in electrical engineering, obtained at the Politecnico di Milano, Fausto Melotti enrolled in Brera attending the courses of Adolfo Wildt together with Lucio Fontana of whom he was a great friend. For years not understood by critics, Melotti was multifaceted in his interests ranging from metals to plaster to ceramics to musical pieces. The musical vein is a peculiarity of the family and has its greatest exponent in the great pianist Maurizio Pollini who was fausto Melotti's favorite nephew who encouraged and supported musical studies. Typical of Fausto Melotti are the filiform figures that refer to certain stylized figures of prehistory, discovered in various locations, painted or engraved on the rock. Other exhibitions are his participation in the Venice Biennials of 1948, 1950 and 1952. Fausto Melotti died in 1986 in Milan, where he studied and worked as an artist.
