Giulio Paolini
Biography
Artistic currents
Giulio Paolini was born in Genoa in 1940. He attended the Istituto Tecnico Industriale Statale graduating in graphic design in 1959. Visiting exhibitions and museums he began his artistic career in the field of painting with avant-garde solutions that soon led him into the vein of Conceptual Art. In this context he analyzes the relationship between the artist and the work and between the work and the viewer. He is interested in photography, which often enters his compositions, and theatrical scenography. The critic Germano Celant involves him in that group of innovative artists who will make up the Arte Povera group, but he differs from these for his conceptual research. His exhibition career takes place in Italy and abroad in the most important galleries that deal with the artistic avant-garde. There are numerous exhibitions in public spaces starting from his many participations in the Venice Biennale, the first of which dates back to 1970.

Giulio Paolini - Poor Art
Art Poor is the name that Germano Celant attributed, in the mid-1960s, to the production of a group of artists such as Alighiero Boetti, Mario Merz, Giulio Paolini, Jannis Kounellis, Gilberto Zorio, Michelangelo Pistoletto, and others, to whom later piero Gilardi also joined. It distinguishes, these artists, the use of techniques and unconventional supports, such as earth, iron, rags, industrial waste, etc., materials precisely poor gives the name of Poor Art . Materials that are in common use and therefore, in the intentions of the authors, a trace to the original structures of language, a reduction to the minimum terms, an impoverishment the pictorial sign to the point of going back to its archetype. Peculiarity of these artists is also the frequent use of the installation or that of the use of live animals. Celebri remains Pistoletto's "Virgin of rags" and Kounellis' "Untitled (12 horses)"Giulio Paolini - Conceptual Art
Conceptual Art sets out to overcome painting-painting in favor of idea-painting or conceptual painting. In other words, in Conceptual Art it is more important the gestation of the work and the programming of its execution. It is therefore an art thought, reasoned rather than felt. Execution becomes a fact of pure assembly of objects that form the work. Of course the visual aspect does not disappear completely as traces of painting are often found among the authors, but they are traces of painting put in a certain order that springs from the artist's thought. A precursor of Conceptual Art is considered Marchel Duchamp with his famous "urinal". At moment among the great artists of Conceptual Art we put Emilio Isgrò with yours Erasion.
